Echoes Beneath The Crimson Orbit

The crimson orbit of planet Heliara filled the shuttle window like a colossal burning halo, its reddish glow washing over every surface inside the vessel. Arion Kess leaned forward in the pilots chair staring into the swirling atmosphere below. He had spent years in deep space but no world had ever made him feel what Heliara did. A quiet pull. A whisper he could not explain. A longing that made no sense.

Behind him soft footsteps echoed across the metallic floor. A woman entered the cockpit her gaze fixed on the planet as though she had been waiting her whole life to see it.

Arion glanced over his shoulder. Dr Nalea Rin astrophysicist linguist and the most enigmatic member of the crew. She carried an air of gentle mystery around her her long dark hair braided with thin strands of silver tech fiber that faintly glowed under the ship lights. Her eyes a deep violet held something ancient and quiet within them.

You feel it dont you Arion she asked stepping beside him.

Feel what

The voice calling from below.

He raised an eyebrow. You and your theories about planetary consciousness. I do not believe planets call to people.

Nalea smiled softly. Yet you have been restless since we entered Heliara orbit.

He opened his mouth to argue but stopped. She was right. The moment they had approached this world something inside him had stirred. Something unknown. Something familiar. Like a memory he did not remember having.

Before he could respond the ships intercom crackled. Captain Devrons voice filled the cockpit. Expedition team to the hangar. Surface drop in fifteen minutes. Repeat. Surface drop in fifteen minutes.

Nalea looked at Arion with a quiet anticipation. Ready to find the truth

He forced a smirk. I am ready to find whatever anomaly the sensors picked up. Nothing more.

But even he did not believe his own words.

The surface of Heliara was unlike any world they had surveyed before. Crimson sand dunes stretched across the horizon like waves frozen in time. Jagged black stone formations protruded from the ground carved by winds that carried faint whispers. A soft humming vibration traveled through the earth itself gently buzzing against Arions boots as if the planet truly was alive.

The team stepped out of the transport pod. Captain Devron a tall man with a sharp gaze led the group while two security officers monitored the area. Arion and Nalea followed behind their scanners out.

Arion paused. Do you hear that

The others shook their heads.

Nalea tilted her head listening. The hum is louder here. Almost like a pulse.

Captain Devron frowned. Focus on the mission. We locate the source of the anomalous reading collect samples and report findings. No wandering. No unnecessary risks.

But Heliara had its own intentions.

Arion took a few steps toward a cracked obsidian ridge. Something shimmered at its base. A faint flicker of light pulsing in rhythm with his heartbeat.

Nalea noticed. Arion wait dont touch it yet.

But he was already kneeling. The glow intensified. The hum grew deeper. And suddenly the ground beneath him crumbled.

Arion fell.

The world blurred into streaks of red and black as he slid through a narrow chute of stone. By instinct he reached out but there was nothing to hold onto. He landed hard on a smooth surface below. Dust filled the air.

Arion Are you alive Naleas voice echoed from above.

Im fine he replied coughing. I found something. Or it found me.

He activated his wrist beacon. Light illuminated a vast underground chamber. Crystalline structures rose from the floor like frozen lightning streaks reflecting the crimson glow filtering in from above. Strange symbols etched across the crystalline walls pulsed softly with each beat of his heart.

Nalea lowered herself through the opening landing beside him gracefully. Her violet eyes widened. Arion this chamber is artificial. It predates any known civilization in this sector.

He nodded. And these symbols. They are reacting to us.

Reacting to you she whispered.

Arion turned. What makes you say that

Because when I approach them the light fades.

He tested her words stepping closer to the symbols. They brightened noticeably.

Nalea stared at him with something between awe and fear. Arion I do not think this is a coincidence.

Before he could respond the crystalline floor shifted. A soft chime resonated like music. Then a figure emerged from the far end of the chamber. Not walking. Floating.

Arion froze.

The being was humanoid but composed entirely of flowing light. Red silver and gold hues rippled across its translucent form. Its voice resonated directly inside their minds not through sound.

You have returned.

Arion stiffened. Returned Who are you

The being tilted its head. I am Elyndra. Guardian of the Echo chambers. Keeper of memory and essence. And you Arion Kess are the one who once awakened me.

Nalea stepped protectively closer to Arion. He has never been here. He has never met you.

The crystalline walls brightened. Memories not his surged like a wave crashing into his mind. A vision of himself standing where he stood now but dressed in ancient silver armor. A woman beside him not Nalea but someone with violet eyes. A great rift in the sky. A promise. A heartbreak. A sacrifice.

Arion staggered gripping his head. Stop. Stop I cannot see this. I do not understand.

Nalea caught him. Arion breathe. What did you see

He shook his head struggling. Memories. But they could not be mine.

Elyndras form pulsed. They are echoes of a life you once lived. Thousands of years ago when you walked Heliara as one of the Ascended. When you and the one called Lyare bound the fate of this world to your own.

Nalea stiffened at the name Lyare though she did not know why. Arion looked at her seeing something change in her expression. Something deep and quiet.

Elyndra floated closer. This chamber has waited for your return and for the return of the one whose soul resonates with yours. The one reborn from the ashes of the ancient bond.

Nalea swallowed. Who are you referring to

Elyndras light softened. You.

Arion and Nalea exchanged stunned glances.

Nalea whispered. That is impossible. I was born on the research colony Valis three. I am human.

You are human in this lifetime Elyndra said. But the essence that shapes your soul is older. It remembers the bond you shared with Arion across ages.

Arion felt his heart pound painfully. A connection. A pull. A recognition he had felt since the day he met her but had always ignored.

Nalea looked at him her voice trembling. Arion I do not know what this means. I do not know who I used to be. But I know that something inside me feels like it is awakening. Something that responds to you.

Before he could speak the chamber trembled violently.

Elyndras form pulsed urgently. The Crimson Rift stirs. The seal you created in your past life weakens. If it breaks the core of Heliara will collapse unleashing a dimensional rupture that will devour this star system.

Arion stood straighter. Tell us what we must do.

You must reconnect the bond that once sealed the Rift. Your essences must merge in harmony once more. Only your combined resonance can stabilize the planetary core.

Nalea stepped back fear flickering across her features. Merge essence What does that even mean

Elyndras voice grew quieter. It means opening your memories. Reclaiming your ancient identity. Accepting the love that once bound you. Without hesitation.

Nalea looked down shaking. Arion I do not know if I can do that. I am not the person I was before. I do not remember her. I do not know if I can love someone because of a past life I do not remember.

Arion reached for her hand. You do not need to remember a past life to decide what you feel now.

Her breath caught.

He continued softly. Nalea ever since we met I felt something I could not explain. A pull toward you like gravity. I fought it. I denied it. But being here with you now. I cannot deny it anymore.

She looked up at him eyes shimmering.

Arion whispered. Whatever we had in the past does not matter. What matters is what we choose in this life.

The chamber trembled again this time more violently. Cracks of red light splintered across the walls.

Elyndras voice echoed. Decide quickly. The Rift is awakening.

Arion turned to Nalea desperate. I choose you. Not because of a past life. Not because the universe demands it. But because being near you feels like finding a missing piece of myself.

Nalea stepped forward slowly her heart pounding. Arion I am afraid.

I am afraid too. But we face it together.

She closed her eyes inhaling. Then she squeezed his hand. I choose you Arion. In this life and whatever came before.

Light erupted around them. The crystalline chamber split open revealing a swirling vortex of crimson and gold energy beneath the planet surface.

Elyndra guided them to the edge. Place your joined hands at the center of the rifts heart. Let your essence flow freely. Trust your bond.

Arion and Nalea stepped onto a crystalline platform hovering above the swirling energy. The heat was intense yet soothing. A soft hum resonated through their bones.

Arion cupped her face gently. Ready

She nodded. Together.

They extended their joined hands toward the vortex.

The instant their palms touched the energy stream a brilliant pulse of light shot upward like a pillar piercing the core of the planet. Memories flooded them both. Visions of ancient battles. A vow spoken beneath twin moons. A final kiss before sealing the Rift ages ago. Love that transcended lifetimes.

Nalea gasped tears streaming.

Arion whispered. I remember you.

And I remember you she breathed.

The vortex roared then slowly softened. The red glow deepened into a warm golden light. The Rift sealed itself with a gentle sigh as the entire planet steadied beneath their feet.

When the platform lowered them back into the chamber Elyndra floated before them her form flickering with serene energy.

The seal is restored. Heliara is safe.

Nalea leaned into Arion still trembling. He wrapped his arms around her holding her against his chest.

Elyndra continued. You have fulfilled the ancient promise your past selves made. But your journey in this lifetime is only beginning.

Arion looked down at Nalea. Then he looked at Elyndra. What happens now

You live she said softly. You love. And you decide what your bond means in this world.

The crystalline chamber dimmed into peaceful stillness.

Nalea whispered against his shoulder. Arion do you think this is real Do you think what we feel is ours or simply echoes of what we once were

Arion lifted her chin gently. It does not matter where it began. What matters is what we choose now. And I choose you. Not just the soul you were but the woman you are.

She breathed out shakily. Then I choose you too.

Outside the chamber Heliaras crimson skies glowed brighter than ever before. The planet seemed to pulse with newfound harmony.

Hand in hand Arion and Nalea stepped into the rising light of a world reborn and a love rediscovered across ages.
